We've marked another milestone in our transformaঞon journey
to build A Beer Tomorrow™ in West Africa.
In line with our sustainability agenda and delivering a more
sustainable future for all stakeholders, on Friday 21st July 2023,
the BAT Ibadan factory commissioned its 1MW (megawa) Solar
Plant, with an installed capacity of 996KWp DC Solar Panels.
This is part of the planned 1.401MWp DC Solar Power Project
for the factory this year.
The commissioning of the solar plant was done by Charles Kyalo,
Area Operaঞons Director SSA and was accompanied by Alberto
Kauer, Cluster Manager, Operaঞons WCA, Hasnain Ishঞaq Head
of Manufacturing, Bangladesh and other members of the
Operaঞons Leadership Team (OPSLT).
This 1MWp DC grid-ঞed Solar project system soluঞon was
designed in line with BAT Photovoltaic (PV) Standard, using
Tier-1 Solar panels (Jinko) and Inverters (SMA) equipment.
A total of 1,812 numbers of Jinko Solar Panels, each rated
550Wp and 8 100KW SMA hybrid inverters are currently
installed, with and hybrid controller. An access stairway was
created on the uniquely curved roof, to ensure easy and safe
access to the Solar panels installaঞon area.
Being a grid-ঞed 1MW Solar power system (without backup
baeries), the system is expected to generate an average of
2,800KWh per day, cumulaঞng into about 1,000,000 KWh/year.
This would reduce our annual factory energy consumpঞon by
4%, reducing the carbon emission by about 450 Tons.
This Phase 1 (1MW) Solar project was delivered
with Zero injury and over 110,000 manhours.
Upon compleঞon of the enঞre 1.401MWp DC
Solar Power Project, the total expected annual
output would be an average of 1,550,000
KWh/year, Which would contribute 6.5% of
our total energy consumpঞon in the factory and
reduce our CO2 emission by about 650Tons.
On the 18th of July 2023, BAT South Africa ventured on
their first CSI Iniঞaঞve for 2023, celebraঞng the legacy
of our internaঞonal icon Nelson Mandela- by spending
67 minutes packing non-perishable goods to be
distributed to underprivileged communiঞes in
partnership with Food Forward SA.
BAT employees across the three major ciঞes (Cape
Town, Durban & Johannesburg) took part in what was an
incredible experience for us all - teamwork, fun and tons
of pictures was the order of the day!
The employees that could not join us generously donated
boxes of grocery items to Food Forward SA, a special
shout out to our Finance Leadership Team who
significantly contributed to this donaঞon.
Thank you to all those who aended and supported this
iniঞaঞve by donaঞng their funds, ঞme or goods.
We appreciate all your support,
#BATSAUnleashingGreatness!
